Window Wells are In! · 416 days ago by Kristen Stanoch

Well, (no pun intended) the new window wells are in – another first in the house process! Thanks to Palmer we got some new rock and some free labor out of the deal – we’ll be putting in four new bushes in the front to complete the new landscaping. (Before it snows!)

New Garage Door....and carpet to come.... · 416 days ago by Kristen Stanoch

We are on a roll lately – we have a new garage door! It even has an opener, so it can open and close by the push of a button! Crazy 2007 that we live in! This upcoming weekend we will be tiling the new bathroom upstairs, and we’ll be having new carpet installed upstairs within the next two weeks…...

Bathroom Fan and Trim · 624 days ago by Tom Stanoch

Dave came over and installed a fan/vent for the bathroom. Now it doesn’t get so steamy when someone showers.

He also did all of the remaining trim and casing for around the doors and floor in the kitchen. It looks great.

Painting the Upstairs · 680 days ago by Tom Stanoch

Even though we aren’t done with the kitchen, we have decided to take on another project and move our bedroom to the space upstairs. Right now we are in the process of painting all of that depressing knotty pine. Some people may think this is a sin, and from them I ask their forgiveness….actually, you know what, no I don’t, and I don’t care what they think. We are still priming and it’s a slow process because all of the grooves need to be painted with a brush and not a roller. Pictures to come soon!!

Toe-kick · 745 days ago by Tom Stanoch

I thought this was going to be a big kitchen weekend but it turned out that since it was so nice that I decided to spend most of Sunday working outside. I patched and filled in cracks in the garage, as well as at the foundation of the chimney. I also raked and cleaned out the gutters.

Anyway, back to the kitchen. The toe-kicks took a lot longer than I anticipated because the base cabinet with the sink in it was not up high enough on one side to fit the toe-kick under it….nice job measuring, self. So I tried to twist the legs up to make the cabinet higher and they cracked! This was not good. After a half hour of me just laying on the floor in the fetal position thinking “oh shit, what am I going to do now,” I came up with an idea. I grabbed another leg to use as a jack to raise the cabinet up high enough to get the new legs in place and I must admit that it worked better than expected. Before I could do that however, I had to first unscrew the cabinet from the wall which was a scary thought considering everything that was attached to it (plumbing, sink, disposal, dishwasher hoses, counter top). It turns out that since I raised the left side of the cabinet up about 1/4 inch it will no longer attach to the wall using the same hole so I’ll have to figure out another method.

I also started putting the handles on the doors, what pain in the butt those are…but they sure do look nice!

The Microwave is Up! · 748 days ago by Tom Stanoch

Last night, we got the microwave put up thanks to the help of Erik. It looks great and hasn’t fallen off the wall yet so that’s a bonus. We also finished putting up all of the doors and they look great!

This concludes the major kitchen work and I’m really excited to say that. I usually find myself standing in the kitchen and just looking at it, and being proud of what we did.

I’m going to compile how much everything cost and post it here. This is mainly the outside browser shopping for an IKEA kitchen.

Today we got our stove hooked back up. $80 but I don’t care. It’s good to have it working so Kristen can make food!

Circuits Added · 764 days ago by Tom Stanoch

Everything kind of worked out with the electrical on the west wall. I’m glad it the wire broke and we had to call an electrician because our space-saver microwave and fridge are supposed to have their own 20amp circuits. If the wire hadn’t have broke we would have been running everything off of one circuit that shared lights from the basement and living room. That wouldn’t have lasted long. The cost for the two circuits was way more than I was expecting but Paul paid for half so that was good. Thanks! Now we can finally put the cabinets up on that wall.
